Wisconsin Food Allergy

Treatments That Change Lives — Not Just Manage Symptoms

Our Promise

At Wisconsin Food Allergy Institute,
we don’t just help you avoid allergens. We help you overcome them.

Our immunotherapy treatments are designed to build lasting tolerance
—
reducing the fear of accidental exposure and giving patients the freedom to live more fully. Whether you’re a parent seeking protection for your child or an adult tired of a lifetime of restrictions, we have options that can help.

Allergy Testing & Diagnosis

Clarity before treatment

Why Testing Matters:

Many patients have been avoiding foods they may not actually be allergic to — or underestimating allergies that need treatment. Accurate testing gives us the information we need to build your personalized plan.

Effective treatment starts with accurate diagnosis. We offer comprehensive allergy testing to identify your specific triggers and understand your allergy profile.

Testing Options

Skin Prick Testing

Quick, in-office test that identifies IgE-mediated allergies.

Blood Testing (Specific IgE)

Measures antibody levels to specific allergens.

Component Testing

Advanced testing that identifies which proteins within an allergen you react to — helping predict severity and treatment response.

Oral Food Challenges

The gold standard for confirming or ruling out a food allergy, conducted safely in our office.

Oral Immunotherapy (OIT)

The gold standard in food allergy treatment

For Treating:

  • Peanut
  • Tree nuts (almond, cashew, walnut, etc.)
  • Milk
  • Egg
  • Sesame
  • Soy
  • Wheat
  • Multiple allergens (simultaneously, when appropriate)

Who It’s For:
Children and adults with IgE-mediated food allergies who want lasting protection beyond avoidance.

Outcome:
Most OIT patients achieve “bite-proof” protection — meaning accidental exposures that once meant an ER visit now cause little to no reaction. Many patients achieve full tolerance, eating their allergen freely.

OIT is a proven, FDA-recognized approach that works by introducing tiny, carefully measured amounts of an allergen (like peanut, milk, or egg) to the body over time. Gradually, the immune system learns to tolerate what it once attacked.

How it Works?

1. Initial Assessment

We evaluate your allergy history, conduct testing, and determine if OIT is right for you.

2. Initial Dose Escalation

In our office, we administer small, increasing doses under close supervision to establish your starting point.

3. Build-Up Phase

At home, you take daily doses.
Every 1-2 weeks, we increase the amount in-office until you reach your maintenance dose.

4. Maintenance

Once you reach your target dose, you continue daily dosing at home to maintain protection. Most patients reach maintenance within 6-12 months.

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

A Gentler Path To Desensitization

Benefits of SLIT:

  • Administered at home (fewer office visits)
  • Gentle approach with lower risk of reactions
  • Can treat environmental allergies alongside food allergies
  • Good option for very young children

Who It’s For: Patients who may not be ready for OIT, prefer home-based treatment, or want to start with a gentler approach to desensitization.

SLIT uses allergen drops placed under the tongue to gradually train the immune system. It’s a safe, effective option that can be administered at home — making it ideal for younger children or patients who prefer a less intensive approach.

How it Works?

1. Initial Assessment

We evaluate your allergy history to determine if SLIT is the right fit.

2, Custom Formulation

We create a personalized drop solution based on your specific allergens.

3.Daily Dosing
at Home

You administer drops under the tongue each day, following a gradual increase schedule.

4. Periodic Check-Ins

We monitor progress and adjust your protocol as needed.

It's Not Too Late

Treatment for Adults

Most food allergy programs focus on children. But what about the adults who have lived with allergies for 20, 30, 40 years?

At Wisconsin Food Allergy Institute, we treat adults too.

Whether you’ve had your allergy since childhood or developed it later in life
(adult-onset allergies are more common than you think),
immunotherapy can help.
Our adult patients often achieve excellent results — and finally experience the freedom they’ve been waiting for.

Common adult patient concerns we address:

“I’ve managed this for decades — is it worth treating now?”

“I thought OIT was just for kids.”

“My allergy affects my career and relationships.”

“Can I really change something I’ve lived with my whole life?”

Yes. You can.

Ready to Explore Your Options?

Every patient is different. The right treatment depends on your allergies, your history, your goals, and your life. We’ll help you understand what’s possible
